Super-duper-jumbo ---BOEING CONSIDERS 800-SEAT PLANE:

From the New York Times:

Boeing said today that it was considering developing a jet capable of carrying as many as 800 passengers, pitting the world's largest airplane maker against Airbus Industrie in the market for so-called superjumbo jets. The company plans to either invest $3 billion to build a 550-seat version of its 747, the world's largest passenger plane, or develop an even larger jet from scratch, the company said. Boeing has been studying options for a larger jet since it scrapped plans two years ago to spend $7 billion in expanding its 747 jumbo jet. Pressure to build a larger plane increased after its European rival, Airbus, decided to make a 600-seat aircraft for delivery in 2005.
