ADVISORY/Is Another Big Market Plunge Looming?
Tech Stocks Guru Michael Murphy Featured On Internet- Streamed Informed Investors Forum Radio Program Thursday April 22
--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Michael Murphy, Editor of the California Technology Stock Letter and highly regarded technology stocks analyst, will be the special guest on the Informed Investors Forum radio program at 11 a.m. (PDT) Thursday, April 22.
The one-hour show on KFNX (AM -1100) in Phoenix, AZ and WALE (AM-990) in Providence, RI will be audio-streamed live and archived via the Internet through Informed Investors Forum's web site at www.informedinvestors.com. The broadcast is sponsored by Vcall, Inc. (www.vcall.com).
Murphy is one of the nation's best-known technology experts and since 1981 has published the newsletter focusing on technology and biotechnology stocks. Among the companies he follows are 3COM (Nasdaq:COMS - news), Cymer (Nasdaq:CYMI - news), Informix (Nasdaq:IFMS - news), KLA-Tencor (Nasdaq:KLAC - news) and many more. Murphy is also author of the book ''Every Investor's Guide to High Tech Stocks and Mutual Funds.''
In his most recent CTSL newsletter (April 2, 1999), Murphy suggested an ''Internet bubble'' could overhang the technology stocks in the near term. He advises investors to be particularly wary of the earnings announcement from Amazon.com (Nasdaq:AMZN - news) expected on about May 19.
The danger, according to Murphy, is not that Amazon.com will report a loss -- that's a given -- but that revenue growth may fall short of expectations. It that happens, Internet stocks could be vulnerable to a sell-off. Technology stocks, Murphy adds, would likely join in the fall.
Murphy also says the ''D10K Barrier'' is proving difficult for the broad market to hurdle. He expects continued ''high-level churning'' in the 9300-10300 range on the Dow Jones Industrial Average in the near future. The lack of breadth in the stock market's recent advance is a concern. Murphy's radio appearance sets the stage for Informed Investors' Tech Stocks Forum two days later in Palo Alto. Details follow:
