EDIG coverage
I receive daily news from Infobeat (purchased by Sony not to long ago I believe), a very popular source of e-mail delivered news. Among the categories I receive is technology. In today's 4/21/99 Afternoon Edition, EDIG was mentioned along with Lucent in this clip. This e-mail news edition I receive isn't determined by the stocks I own but is rather a general news service so all Infobeat subscribers who receive the tech section will have also received this clip.

*** Lucent teams for MP3 competitor

(CNET News.com) - Lucent Technologies has teamed up with e.Digital
and Texas Instruments to develop a handheld Internet music device
that will compete with MP3 systems. Due to ship in December, the new
device, to be manufactured by e.Digital, will use Lucent's Enhanced
Perceptual Audio Coder chip and will employ e.Digital's MicroOS file
management system, Lucent said. Unlike other handheld devices on the
market that play downloadable music using the MP3 format, the
e.Digital device will play EPAC files. Lucent's New Ventures Group is
a member of the Secure Digital Music Initiative, the recording
industry's effort to develop a secure access system for digital music
in response to what it claims is the nonsecure nature of MP3. ###
