Your broker should have a margin handbook for you to read. I suggest you read it thouroghly and if there is anything you don't understand, make them explain it to you until you have a complete understanding. You should be able to access your trading power as well as your overnight holding power thru your clearing firm each morning. They are different numbers by the way. Get that manual and don't use your margin for now. There will be plenty of time to use it. It is a tool. Do not think of it as a loan or even free money. Just a leverage tool. Trust me, your broker takes no losses.
