There is nothing inconsistent with Gerstner's "PC era is over" statement and today's announcement.

Take a close look at the composition of IBM's earnings. Look at the contribution from enterprise solutions. Server, software, etc.

PC's are not dead. But then, he didn't say that.

i think part of the problem may be everyone is still saying "we are in the middle of an upswing." Truth goes two ways: 1) never were in an upswing or 2) was the shortest one in history. I don't think either answer would be wrong at this point. Time will tell.
