Box Hill Announces Next-Generation Fibre Channel Storage Solution
NEW YORK, April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Box Hill Systems Corp. (NYSE: BXH), a leading independent provider of storage and SAN solutions, today announced its next generation of fast and reliable Fibre Channel disk storage solution -- the Fibre Box 8004. The 8004 builds on the attributes of the original Fibre Box by adding new features, including enhanced enclosure intelligence, improved connectivity options, and remote notification. "We designed the Fibre Box 8004 to include new technology to accommodate the enterprise management needs of our clients, while maintaining the same throughput and fault-tolerance that made the original Fibre Box so innovative," said Philip Black, Box Hill's CEO. "We are excited about the technological developments of the 8004, and its ability to improve the efficiency, manageability and reliability of our clients' storage environments." One of the key features of the Fibre Box 8004 is the accompanying SES software, which allows remote monitoring and management of the system. The SES monitoring utility notifies storage/system administrators of any problems via e-mail, beeper, event logs, or by sending SNMP traps to an SNMP management host. In addition, the Fibre Box 8004 supports 48 VDC, a telecom industry standard, allowing the 8004 to be used in even more applications. To provide greater network flexibility, the 8004 can be configured with copper HSSDC connectors, or with GBIC ports that support copper or optical GBICs. With these connectivity options, the Fibre Box 8004 easily accommodates a range of network cabling needs and preferences. Like the first generation Fibre Box, the 8004 also provides redundancy of all critical components including four redundant cooling fans, three redundant load-sharing power supplies with auto-failover, redundant port bypass control cards, and hot-swappable drives to ensure data availability and integrity at all times. The Fibre Box 8004 is being shown this week by Pacific Ocean Post, a premier visual effects house, in Las Vegas, Nev., where the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Conference is taking place.
