FWIW, margin interest (investment interest) is not directly deductible from your gains. It is deductible only on Line 13, Schedule A--Itemized deduction, along with mortgage interest, etc. It is the investment expenses which can be deductible against your investment gains. In other words, if one used standard deduction, no matter how much margin interest he/she paid, it is not deductible.
