Hi Michelle:

In Hong Kong the dominant provider - by far - is the service operated by HK Telecom - a listed company here, which also operates the main fixed line system and is also one of the two biggest mobile operators. Their shares have recently gone up a lot on the back of rumours that they may list their ISP subsidiary (which also provides VOD). HKT is, in turn, a subsidiary of British listed Cable and Wireless.

Inroads are being made by people like PSINet in the business market. Pacific Internet has given itself a profile bec of the listing - but only for that reason. There are a lot of other local providers far more important locally than they are. From what I can tell, this applies in almost all Asian markets, not just HK
