REVENUE

Story Filed: Thursday, April 21, 1999 11:40 PM EST

SYDNEY, Apr 22, 1999 (Asia Pulse via COMTEX) -- Compaq Computer Australia today
announced a 16 per cent rise in first quarter revenue compared to the same period last year.

Compaq Australia said that its results reflected the company's increasing focus on customer
relationships and the continued improvement of delivery of products and services.

The company did not reveal a profit figure for the quarter but said it also recorded record results for its
product shipments which increased 27 per cent compared to the first quarter of last year.

Service revenue also increased by 14.5 per cent over the same period last year.

"Our pleasing first quarter result clearly demonstrates the growing strength and momentum of our
Australian operations," Ian Penman, managing director of Compaq Australia said.

Earlier this week, parent company Compaq Computer Corp reported lacklustre first quarter results.

It reported first-quarter EPS of 16 cents, up from one cent a year earlier, on revenues of $US9.419
billion, up from $5.687 billion.

On Sunday, the parent company dismissed Eckhard Pfeiffer from the chief executive's office.

"We are shipping more product than ever before and generating increased revenue across virtually all
of our products and services," Mr Penman said.

"At the same time were are managing the business more efficiently, thereby driving higher profitability
for the local organisation," he said.
