U.S. blue chips seen taking a breather at open

U.S. blue chips are seen taking a breather at the open Friday, with AT&T Corp. (T - news) provoking some weakness in the Dow. Technology stocks could get a boost from strong earnings at personal computer seller Gateway Inc. (GTW - news), they said. AT&T said late Thursday it had offered to buy MediaOne Group Inc. (UMG - news) for $58 billion in cash and stock, topping a bid by Comcast Corp. (CMCSA - news). S&P futures down 5. Long bond up 5/32 to yield 5.59 percent.
