GQ: Ewan McGregor Spaces Out
Wed, Apr 21, 99 03:45:36 PM CST

The May issue of GQ is out with Ewan McGregor on the cover. The article is typical Ewan fare with many words not typically found in family-oriented Star Wars reading. There's not much on Star Wars itself, and is completely spoiler safe. They spoke with Liam Neeson and George Lucas on McGregor. Here are some samples...

"It's coming out soon, isn't it? ****. It might be a bit mad, eh? There are some scary people in the world, aren't there? They're fanatics. It's quite a scary idea."
"I really do have rats in my flat. You open the door in the night to have a pee, there'll be one there, only now he's eight feet tall, looking you in the eye, saying, 'May the Force be with you.'"

Neeson has been forced to use an alias, a precaution he never needed before. "I got all these calls saying, 'Hey, dude, are you a Jedi Master or something?' There's something about Star Wars that taps into the psyche of the whole world."

George Lucas isn't worried, "Ewan's talent will win out over everything. He's got a great future. He will survive Star Wars.

Mark Hamill does NOT have Cameo in Episode 1
Tue, Apr 20, 99 10:47:30 PM CST

In comments made at an appearance at Weber State University, Mark Hamill revealed that he has a small role in The Phantom Menace.

He said he'll go and watch the new movies, but they'll be bittersweet for him.
"It's going to be a hard thing emotionally to let a bunch of strangers play in my playbox. But I knew it was going to be multi-generational," he said.

When asked if he would attend the upcoming "Star Wars" convention in Denver, he said he thought the focus should be on the new actors.

Hamill does have a bit part in the prequel, though his son, who is playing an extra, probably has a bigger role. Hamill expects no one will recognize his part he does a voice, altered and deepened like Darth Vader's.

UPDATE!!! - Mike Steed (and Brandon Bird who was also in attendance) sent is the following correction:

I attended the Mark Hamill thing at Weber State University and the writer of the article was mistaken. The voice in which Mark Hamill was referring to was himself doing the voice in Empire at the evacuation of Hoth when it says, "The first transport is away, the first transport is away." He said that George Lucas just had him say it and that they would use the same thing they used for Darth Vader's voice to sort of change it. He did mention his son being an extra for episode one though. I just thought I would let you know so people won't be listening for Mark Hamill's voice in episode one when it isn't.
