Clarification on part of CC notes:

3) Manufacturers can choose whether to build equipment which supports one mode, or they can build it to support multiple modes. It is the manufacturer's and operator's choice.

This is in regards to 3g.

9) Nortel, Hitachi and Hughes will continue to get infrastructure modules from Qualcomm even after the sale. (Note I am not sure I captured this correctly. I was busy writing when they said this. Can anyone confirm this infras module thing?)

Yes..relationships carried forward...mentioned specifically that NT JV already profitable. Seems they kept all the good stuff..except the employees of course..Dave

From Sven-baby's quarterly release:
[by the way, it was an ugly quarter and looks ugly for the rest of the year]

Ericsson and Qualcomm announced that they have entered into a series of agreements that resolve all
disputes between the companies relating to Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology. The
agreements include the acquisition by Ericsson of Qualcomm's infrastructure division. As a result,
Ericsson will have a complete portfolio of technologies for 2nd and 3rd generation wireless products.
Further expansion of our already world-leading mobile systems business will be accelerated, in particular
on the North American market. The deal is expected to close during the second quarter 1999. Ericsson
will then move quickly into the market for CDMA infrastructure. Ericsson will offer CDMA mobile phones
during the first half of next year.

Clark, re Nortel, Hitachi and Hughes will continue to get infrastructure modules from Qualcomm even after the sale. (Note I am not sure I captured this correctly. I was busy writing when they said this. Can anyone confirm this infras module thing?) Also note that the Nortel contract runs through Feb 2001.

That is essentially the way I heard it, although I don't specifically recall use of the word module. The meaning seemed clear. The OEM contracts with those companies will continue to be filled by Q. Said they may subcontract for some part with Ericy I believe. Also mentioned that these are and have always been profitable contracts (as opposed to the rest of infrastructure division).

Jim
