jbe, I realize that the rule on prepositions is not hard and fast. But I have made it largely a part of my speech. I do think it usually sounds better.

The extreme example you cite does of course sound stilted. That's why I love to use it with the uninitiated. It appeals to my sense of humor. Cheers,
