Why do you think that ericy has to stick with wcdma? They'll give their customers the best alternative and they can easily weave the story to whatever sounds good. They already lost (or saved) face by making the deal qcom. To my knowledge, they never actually deployed wcdma to customers so they don't have to retrofit anything.
