I mixed a lot in that post, including small-cap factoid and elimination of pooling. Concerning the pooling ruling, I agree there will be more mergers, bigger mergers, and nuttier mergers than ever before.

Also, the elimination would take place in 2001 not 2000, so there is this year AND next year for mergers to occur. Makes a good investment strategy, trying to determine what factors will be used to select acquisition candidates, using the information to purchase shares of likely candidates, and score on any successes.

Then again, mergers typically are dis-settling to the operation of the companies involved, and I prefer well lubed machines like THQI, so I don't think I will pursue this option. But ... it sure could stir up the dust for investors in companies who suddenly become merger candidates.

It will be very interesting to see how companies (especially American companies) handle the matter over the next year and a half.
