It's worth considering that in Dodge City due process was a sometime thing. A lot of innocent folks received "Colt processing" along with the two-legged varmints. If I may draw an analogy with NATO ... NATO was conceived as a defensive asset but has recently been used as an instrument of policy. Bad. Civil handguns, if carried, should be strictly defensive assets. In Dodge City they were used as ... instruments of policy. Sure, crime was effectively held down to a dull roar, but there was a level of "collateral casualties" that are unacceptable today to even the most hardened law&order conservative. We are a much more lawful society ... our solutions will need to be respectful of the law and its intent to protect civil liberty. Just my pair o'dimes
