MediaOne began commercial delivery of integrated telephone and cable TV services August 17, in Lighthouse Point, Fla., and deployment began yesterday in Jacksonville, Fla. Lighthouse Point, in the Pompano Beach area, and Jacksonville are two of MediaOne's largest properties with a combined 520,000 cable subscribers. MediaOne plans to use the CABLESPAN system to offer telephone services in 1998 in other MediaOne service areas.

Tellabs is providing MediaOne with a complete solution for the delivery of comprehensive, cost-effective services that includes the CABLESPAN host digital terminal, remote service units and element management system, as well as various Tellabs Select professional services.

"This is precisely why we selected Tellabs for these important markets in Florida," said Gary Lane, vice president-telephone services for MediaOne's National Markets Group. "In addition to the telephony services beginning this week, the CABLESPAN platform provides us with the future capability to provide our customers high-speed access to on-line data services, such as Internet access and corporate LAN extension."

The CABLESPAN system is ideally suited for the deployment of telephone and data services to residential and small-business customers.
