That's a voice from the past. I owned it about three years ago and that time it was an insurance holding company with a good dividend, which why I bought it.

The guiding spirit behind it is Saul Steinberg, and if you look at the company profile in Yahoo, you will see that half the officers are called Steinberg. (The Controller has an Italian name - when I was working in New York I could never figure out why, when you needed an accounts receivable guy, they invariably sent you someone with a Queens accent and an Irish or an Italian last name.)

Saul became infamous 30 years ago when he tried to take over Chemical Bank. Since New York banks at that time were dominated by Yalies and their like, you can imagine how that went over, and for a time he was a pariah. May still be, so far as I know. Nobody has ever questioned his smarts. On the other hand, I've never seen an article extolling his concern for minority investors.

Some of his relatives (or at least they claimed to be) were my neighbors in Bedford Village NY in the 80's. Sort of people who thought they could walk across my property to look at the swans on my pond until I said that the next time they tried it I would disembowel them.

Hope that helps.
