And I certainly don't want to be out of MSFT the morning that the Street wakes up and decides that MSFT is an internet stock.

Amen!
From your keyboard to God's monitor.

SFE appears to operate on a very interesting concept. Almost like a fund specializing in tech companies, and yet not quite. How did you discover this company? What are the minimum purchase requirements for its IPOs? Are there many others like it?

Teflon, I feel the same way about MSFT. I also think sooner rather than later they might acquire something big for the Internet.

Teflon - I agree w/ you - I'm not selling my MSFT core holdings.

The protection you speak of - is fabulous. Remember the big scare last Sept/Oct? even at it's lowest MSFT never went below it's gains from early in the year. That's just amazing. There is so much long term and institutional money in this beast, that it's almost like T used to be - the "safe" stock for all the widows and grandmothers. Except that it grows like a weed too!

I think of MSFT as a kind of foundation that every portfolio should have. It's a core holding, and you don't sell core holdings on every little dip. I've held mine for years, and don't intend to sell anytime soon - in fact I see the next 2-3 years as quite bullish.

There is one thing that concerns me though - you write "I, for one, am quite happy with my MSFT shares doubling every year". Wow. Isn't that the very thing you decry? People who were spoiled by the internet craze into thinking that stocks go up by multiples every year.

I don't count on MSFT doubling this year. I don't think it's sustainable at this market cap. I'll be more than happy to be proven wrong - as I say, I'm not selling my MSFT. But I'm trying to be realistic.

Good luck!
