Jim is wrong - no ifs about it. The very reason for his existence is to proclaim to the huddled masses on this thread that COMPAQ would make 37 cents by stuffing channels. It didn't make 37 cents and didn't stuff channels, so how can you say "if". CPQ and analysts miscalculated the amount of revenues that COMPAQ could earn and the net profits those revenues would yield. The analysts blamed COMPAQ for the miscalculations. COMPAQ sold computers, servers, storage, services and appliances like they were hot cakes, more than ever before in its history, while at the same time registering new patents, developing technology and products, and preparing for the spin-off of AV through the acquisition of zip2 and shopping.com. COMPAQ earned $9.4 billion in revenues and 16 cents in profits - and that's not chicken liver. It will easily exceed the average estimates for 1999 currently being peddled by analysts who are underestimating for fear of getting it wrong again.
