RR and @home are constantly in direct competition for the business of the cable operators. The mere fact we are discussing whether Comcast will leave @home for RR is proof of that.

Good point. They also provide competitive outlets for suppliers of switches and other equipment. Those are the kinds of issues that I think the FTC would look at.

The FCC, for its part, would be under greater pressure -- as the CNET story posted a few messages back points out -- to reconsider its hands-off policy if just one company controlled the cable data pipes reaching 80-90% of the market. Both T and TWX can fend off AOL and the FCC more easily if RR and ATHM remain independent.
