COGNICASE Reports 148 Percent Increase in net Earnings
for Second Quarter of Fiscal 1999

APRIL 29, 1999
MONTREAL, QUEBEC--COGNICASE Inc. (Nasdaq: "COGI") today announced
results for the second quarter and first six months ended March
31, 1999. All dollar amounts are expressed in U.S. dollars.
Revenues increased 249 percent to US$36,028,000 in the second
quarter of fiscal 1999 compared to US$10,319,000 in the
corresponding period in 1998. Net earnings excluding unrealized
foreign exchange gains and losses rose 148 percent to US$3,499,000
($0.24 per share) compared to US$1,413,000 ($0.11 per share) in
the previous year.
For the first six months, revenues increased nearly fivefold to
US$70,941,000 in fiscal 1999 compared to US$14,403,000 last year.
Net earnings excluding foreign exchange gains and losses rose
almost threefold to US$6,460,000 compared to US$2,193,000 in the
corresponding 1998 period.
"We are very pleased with our second quarter results and our
continuing success in building a sustainable and expanding revenue
base in high-growth sectors of the information technology
industry," said Ronald Brisebois, President and Chief Executive
Officer. "Our earnings growth demonstrates our ability to
successfully integrate acquisitions, exploit cross-selling
opportunities to increase revenues and achieve cost synergies to
maintain strong margins."
During the second quarter and subsequently, three acquisitions
were completed, two in Canada and one in France. The aggregate
annual revenues of these three companies prior to acquisition
totaled about US$17 million. With their integration and internal
growth, COGNICASE's revenue run rate currently stands at
approximately US$150 million.
Year 2000 solutions represented less than 12 percent of revenues
in the second quarter, reflecting the strength and diversification
of the Company's revenue mix. This compares with 15 percent in
the first quarter of fiscal 1999 and 21 percent in the fourth
quarter of the previous year. The Company expects continued
decline in this business as a percentage of revenues subsequent quarters.
"The outlook for the third quarter is for continuing revenue and
earnings growth," added Mr. Brisebois. "Repeat business is strong
and our acquisition program is on track. Our discussions with
potential candidates are at various stages of advancement."
Founded in 1991, COGNICASE is an international provider of value-
added information technology consulting services, solutions and
