The principal difference being that GNET makes money and AMZN loses it. <g>

Yup. And that's a big difference. But I think each company uses its different strategy for good reason. GNET's boot-strapping and aggregation approach is healthy for a company that competes against several established players. I'm convinced that it will survive in the long run and become one of the dominant players. AMZN, on the other hand, has built the expensive technological underpinnings for something that's much bigger than what they are now. It is a far different approach, but one that gives it a dominant position in almost any e-commerce direction they persue.

GNET is like the Main Street merchant who buys out neighboring stores. Each one functions well on its own, but combining them gives marketing and buying power that none could have on its own. AMZN is like a big box merchant that builds a huge store and puts up a fake wall since it can't yet use all the space. But the space is there and will be used once the merchandise is available.

(And I do own GNET, but not AMZN.)
