Frontier Up and Running with Wireless Data! pdQ Communicator Ships in May!

Frontier, the upstate New York CDMA-800 carrier has revealed a May 5, 1999 release date for the Qualcomm pdQ Palm OS Communicator. Frontier, per a company insider, will sell the communicator for approximately $800, with service rates at around a dime/minute. Bundled pricing gets service rates down to approximately a nickel/minute. Frontier will bundle pdQ Mail and pdQ Web with the pdQ Communicator.

Frontier is already selling a connector kit for the Palm 3, Palm 3x and Palm Pro for Qualcomm QCP 820 phones. The QCP 820, while requiring a firmware upgrade, is capable a making a 14.4kb/s connection to the internet. The Frontier network, perhaps the most advanced CDMA network in the United States, uses 3Com QuickNet Connect technology to make a 6 second internet connection (vs. 24 seconds over GSM).
