Execution is an interesting way of putting it. No, Compaq has completely failed to do the things it needed to do.

I am a Dell investor (which obviously means that I am pleased by Dell's performance). When I first decided to invest in a box maker I considered three companies very carefully: CPQ, DELL, and GTW. I eliminated CPQ because of their reliance on the channel, and selected Dell because of their focus on the corporate space. In retrospect the choice was perfect.

Looking forward, I think Compaq can turn things around, but it will take time, a strategic vision and willingness to accept the fact that there will be more pain before it gets better.

TTFN,
CTC
