Uncle Frank and Thread:

I have had QCOM on my watch list for a couple months now, but I have been hesitant to pull the trigger. (Big miss..I know). I have been doing my DD etc. I understand the patent leverage on CDMA, the benefits of the technology and the settlement of the lawsuit. I also am very impressed with the earnings.

But, why should I consider them a Gorilla in my portfolio? Isnt AT&T as well as LU on the other side of the fence (TDMA)? Arent there still some issues that are very uncertain with regards to NG and what it will finally look like?

I like what I have read about QCOM, I guess Im just wrestling with their market position and potential dominance. I see some very strong opinions for QCOM on this thread and others. Why not just own TXN which is supplying the majority of DSP's to the wireless market?

Why is this a Gorilla? Help me answer these concerns!

Well,Frank, here we are at the end of a perfect week!

Microsoft: Gives us a quarterly report that should have caused "handsprings", and where is it? Just where is was a week ago! I guess we are stuck in DOJ traffic until the trial is over.

Cisco: No news is good news! up almost 12 this week. I expect it to run to 140 by earnings. (Yeah, Yeah, "in my dreams"!)

Qualcomm: OH MY GOD!!! UP 58!!!

My Portfolio up 18% for the week. I doubt if I will ever have a better week. "The Three Gorillas" have been very, very, good to me.

Total for Year: Up 59%
