will ARM's core be in direct competition with Q?

No - QCOM (and other ASIC vendors ) design microprocessor 'cores' into their chips. These cores are licensed from companies like ARM.
QCOM used to use INTEL. Their latest MSM series will use ARM.

No, the MSM3000 has the ARM core in it as the main processor. What theya re saying is that they are the embedded CPU of choice in alot of chips. Nokia's has it, VLSI chip has it, MSM3000 on up has it, alot of the GSM chipsets have it.

It is not a competition, but rather a complement.
