E.Davies, I'm sure they were very happy to have their piece of the MSFT/Comcast/UMG/RR group which might have been a dominant force in internet delivery. Suddenly AT&T has smashed the dream.
I could easily imagine MSFT forking over another few billion $ to help Comcast top T's offer. I wonder if we will see UMG trading *above* either offer price in expectation of an all out bidding war.

Exactly. The cable industry has not been friendly to Microsoft as with the set top boxes deals. Even Comcast has been preventing Microsoft from gaining too much control in the area of software development in relation to cable services, particularily set top boxes. In my opinion, this the chance that Microsoft was probably hoping for -- in getting more strategic control in the biz of cable companies. Will Bill Gates pass up on such an opportunity? IMHO ---NO!!
Bill Gates would not want AT&T become a monster in the cable industry. That would be a huge threat to Microsoft. Instead in exchange for some concessions from Comcast, Microsoft will help them outbid AT&T.

That is why I have been buying Media One stock and options today. IMHO, we have a bidding war.
