I went back to the article I posted, and didn't see mention of the $40M figure. Did you see this in a different press article?

Anyway, since Intel plans to create a worldwide array of "bit factories" (server farms) for data services, I imagine most cash outlays would be for creating the physical "plant" (servers and infrastructure). The article I posted did say that Intel planned to partner with telcos and ISP's to provide the actual connection layer. Intel might make some contribution to that as well. Of course, I am guessing at this point. I'm sure Intel will roll out more details as the plan gels.

You asked in another post if Intel had any track record in providing services as opposed to hardware. One initiative that comes to mind is Intel's technical service initiative (I can't for the life of me recall it's moniker) where users, small businesses, etc. can sign up for tech. support. As I recall, it covers anything and everything from platform to BIOS to OS to software.

Just some quick thoughts ...
