"Bullshit. As Daniel Yergin has said about the oil industry, no matter how many interesting players, motives, and tactics I look at, there are only two central characters: supply and demand."
Somehow I knew that that message was on its way immediately after hitting "Submit". Yes, they didn't have the "gumption" to start a war when MXTR and Fujitsu came along. I think they believed the same thing that a lot of us on this board believed, especially after HWP dropped out of the drive business: that the Big Three would reign supreme for the foreseeable future, that they were executing quickly and well enough to more or less keep their respective shares, and that the Japanese and Koreans wouldn't be able to crack into the market. Well, they/us were wrong, they weren't executing well enough, they fell asleep, and paid a steep price. My belief (hope?) is that they learned a lesson from that. If not, my (and your, I think) money in QNTM is stale.

LK, are you still long MXTR and short WDC? Or am I recalling that incorrectly?

FWIW, I'm still slightly long on MXTR, waiting for a some stability to get longer. But I'm tempted to get longer and short WDC as a hedge at these levels. Tough to see how WDC is worth notably more per share in this environment. Interesting WDC has rebounded (surprised me) even as MXTR sold off (didn't surprise at all, esp with the downgrades.)

Regards,

Dave
