Entrust(R) Technologies and ValiCert Collaborate to Provide Global Validation Interoperability, Advance OCSP Standard
Alliance to Enhance Entrust/PKI(TM) with ValiCert Global VA Service(SM), ValiCert Enterprise VA Suite(TM)
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Entrust® Technologies, Inc., (Nasdaq: ENTU - news) a global leader in managed public-key infrastructure (PKI) solutions, and ValiCert, Inc., a leading provider of software and services that enable trust and interoperability of digital certificate validation within applications, today announced that the two companies are collaborating for the advancement of high-performance, scalable, interoperable digital certificate validation over the Internet.

The Entrust/PKI solution supports CRL Distribution Points (CRLDP), an efficient, high-performance method for validating digital certificates in Entrust Technologies' PKI deployments. As part of this alliance, ValiCert is providing additional validation components to support OCSP through the use of the ValiCert Global VA Service(SM).

The addition of ValiCert's Validation Authority solutions now enable additional validation interoperability across multiple CRLDP and non-CRLDP revocation schemes, including the newly approved Internet RFC: Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP).

OCSP has recently been accepted as an RFC in the IETF PKIX working group as an industry standard for performing real-time certificate validation on the Internet. ValiCert Security Architect Ambarish Malpani and Entrust Technologies Senior Cryptographer Dr. Carlisle Adams are co-authors of OCSP and the revocation standard is being used in the financial services industry where the validation of time-critical, sensitive information is important. By integrating ValiCert's Global VA Service with Entrust Technologies' managed PKI solution, Entrust customers will be able to check the validity of any digital certificate, whether issued by an Entrust/PKI or a non-Entrust/PKI source using OCSP in addition to CRLs. Through ValiCert's network of relationships with leading certificate authorities and PKI vendors, Entrust/PKI customers will be able to leverage multiple revocation sources of content available on the Internet from a variety of PKI sources.

''We are excited to further our partnership with ValiCert,'' said John Ryan, president and CEO of Entrust Technologies. ''As an industry leader in PKI interoperability, our partnership with ValiCert now brings additional revocation choices to our PKI customers through either CRLDP or OCSP standard formats.''

''Validation is increasingly on the minds of today's leading enterprises,'' said Yosi Amram, president and CEO of ValiCert. ''Our relationship with Entrust Technologies will help bring strong interoperable online validation to customers in both Internet and intranet solutions.''

To enable implementation of the OCSP standard, ValiCert offers the ValiCert Enterprise VA Suite(TM), an enterprise-level digital certificate validation solution that brings certificate checking to a broad range of organizations and applications. It includes the ValiCert OCSP VA Suite(TM), the first complete, commercial implementation of the OCSP protocol for certificate validation and includes the Validator OCSP VA Server(TM), ValiCert Validator Suite(TM), ValiCert VA Publisher(TM) and ValiCert Validator Toolkit(TM).

Entrust Technologies and ValiCert have worked together to enable a combined security solution which will utilize OCSP certificate information so that enterprises using Entrust/PKI will be able to immediately begin utilizing OCSP requesting agents and OCSP formatted revocation information.
