sn -
Good advice. Let me add 2 other statements that have helped me over the years. This comes from my perhaps misguided attempt to "buy low, sell high" but it has worked for me.

1 - when stock price is low and investor confidence is in the tank one has the best time to examine the buying opportunity. If you still believe in the long term prospects of the company, there is no better time to buy. But as I like to remind my wife, just because it is on sale doesn't mean that you HAVE to buy, especially if you already have plenty.

2 - when stock price is high and investor confidence is soaring, one has the best time to examine the selling opportunity . Again doesn't mean you HAVE to sell but if you plan to sell, that is the time to do it.
