Rambus Down 4%; Analyst Cites Intel Delay On Rambus Tech
Dow Jones Newswires

PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Share of Rambus Inc. (RMBS) fell 4.1% Friday, on concern Intel Corp. (INTC) won't support Rambus' high-speed interface technology, one analyst said.

Rambus Chief Executive Officer Gary Harmon said the company hasn't made any new announcements and that the stock will continue to be volatile until Intel launches its Rambus-based chipset for PCs later this year.

Rambus' stock has been off since around mid-April on concerns Intel won't use Rambus' technology for its high-speed microprocessors.

"There's a lot of speculation as to what Intel is going to do here in the interim until Rambus ramps up with its (Rambus-based) chipset in September," said Seth Dickson, an analyst at Warburg Dillon Read. "So many are speculating Intel won't go into Rambus technology, which in our opinion is totally untrue."

Shares of Rambus fell 4.1%, or 2 3/8, to 55 1/4 on volume of 2.6 million shares, compared with average daily volume of 1.2 million.
