Keine Mehrheit Fur Die Mitleid

Mitleid - it feels more as sympathy, like "it pains me to see your pain". Example follows - translating this letter from German it was ...painful... to me

Subj.: Medical help for family members (Kosovo refugees) in the refugee camp Pisina/Albania

Dear reader:

Let me introduce myself. My name is Gzim Krasniqi. Recently I had the opportunity to visit my family in the Albanian refugee camp in Pisina – close to the Pisina swimming pool. The conditions in this Albanian camp, where my family was put into after being forced to leave Kosovo (Orahovac – Pusto selo) must be the worst among the camps being erected right now. My whole family is in a very bad condition, as regards their health. My mother is very ill. They were expulsed by the Serbian militia i.e. by paramilitary formations (lead by Arkan). The Serbian paramilitary policemen raped two of my sisters several times during the day. They do not want to say anything about what happened, but my father can tell the whole story. I saw the situation in the camp. The refugees, kept in that camp, are staying in a sea of mud. My seven family members share three iron beds in one tent. During my stay it was very windy and the tent was getting blown away. My family tried to set it up again and again, because it is the only shelter they have got. A sad sight, that just kills my heart. The whole family is ill and has fever. You can see the fear of the past and the future in their eyes. I feel that the terror and violence of the Serbian police pushed them all in a deep depression. A lot of my questions went by simply unanswered. Their minds were absent. I just don't know if they will be able to survive this at all. I am very much concerned. I ask you please help my family and the other people in the camp. If at all possible, please send doctors and medical personnel in that camp.

I would also like to ask you if you could move my family out of Albania. I am ready to take my family in. I live in Germany since eight years. I am married to a German wife and have a child. We are financially independent. Two of our brothers also live in Germany. They are single, they work and live in our flat (120 m2). We are able to support our family alone. I already tried to obtain the visa for them at the Kreisverwaltungsreferat in Munich. I was informed that at the present time the German government does not issue any visitor visas for Albanians from Kosovo. I am not permitted to take care of my family, in spite of the fact, that I can support them financially and can offer them accommodation. I would like to ask you, if you could give my family medical attention and help me transfer them to Germany. The members of my family are as follows:

Zeqir Krasniqi born 11.05.1944)
Nagije Krasniqi 22.05.1955
Drita Krasniqi 01.01.1972
Lirije Krasniqi 15.11.1980
Hasan Krasniqi 1984
Sabria Krasniqi 1986
Qendrim Krasniqi 09.03.1993

I would like to thank you for your endeavors and your courageous and valuable work from my heart. I am very much hopeful you can help my cause.

Respectfully yours

Gzim Krasniqi
