><>... Hi Brightstar, ...><>

Changing the way a person appears does nothing to empty the heart of hate or anything else.

I also read some of those statistics on schools were a dress code was mandatory. Kind of laughable.

These kids in the trench coats at Columbine High would have been truant if such a mandate was in place. The ACLU is already got a committe of their wise ones working on that issue any way.

James, it's not the clothes a person wears or does not wear that is a predictor of violence. Look at some of the other members who also wore the same garb (trench coats), they were shocked at the behavior of their buddies.

It's a heck of a lot more than choice of dress.
Consider Ted Bundy...Now he was a dapper dresser.
Also, none of the other kids in the last 4 yrs. who did the same thing in their schools as these Columbine boys did, dressed out of the ordinary. They looked like the boy next door.

We can talk more on this later, have to go for now.
Shalom...><>
BTW if clothes were a predictor...that would be good, then we would have no trouble picking out the high risk kids. And dress codes would then only mask the trouble makers....Because in the final analysis clothes tell us nothing concrete!

RE: "I'm not talking about saving their souls. I'm talking about saving their A$$E$."

I was not talking about saving their souls, either. As a matter of fact, I was not talking about saving them in any form. I was simply stating the fact that there is much violence, crime, etc. in the world, and making trench coats illegal will not reduce the amount of evil that we face.

Best wishes,

I2

<<<Schools who institute dress codes will back me up on this.>>>

I will also back you up on that. Countries like Japan will back you up on that and so will many others. Many times gangs use clothing in schools as a means of identifying themselves. This causes undue pressures and hardships to those who must fit into the mode or be ostracized. Kind of rough for the person who wears a red bandanna that has to share English class where the majority wear black head bands! I don't have the results in front of me but it has been proven that it causes the adrenaline to rush which in turn causes a disruption in concentration. In other words it's to hard to stay focused on the academics. Requiring a dress code where everyone looks the same also helps in preventing certain social status walls from being raised in the minds of students. It's hard to tell who is rich or who is poor when every student dresses the same. It's also harder to play hookey where the town you live in recognizes a certain dress code.

There have been studies after studies to prove the validity of dress codes and I would never trust the (ACLU)Anti Christian Liberties Union for advise on anything.
