yes, to the last question.

Any individual stock can go wherever it wants to but there are some limits to moves in the indices look at the NDX and Naz on a timescale broad enough to include the first of 98 ...

near vertical from here very unlikely for more than 100 Naz points -- if we do that (go vertical for something like 10% (250 or more Naz points) or so) then do mortgage the farm and buy NDX puts ... a severe crash would be so likely it would be worth risking large $$'s
