The Serbs have won?

I don't who has won or lost, or who will win or lose, or even at this point what winning or losing means. (To Nato it seems only to mean saving face, which is a horrible reason for innocent people to die.)

But I am reminded of what Chesterton has King Alfred of Britain say to the Romans in his wonderful poem "The Ballad of the White Horse."

For though you hunt the Christian man
Like a hare on the hillside
The hare has still more heart to run
Than you have heart to ride.

Eighteen hundred years later the Christians are still in Britain. The Romans and their mighty empire are long gone.

The Americans are fighting about pictures on a TV screen. The Serbs are fighting for their homeland. In a thousand years the United States Empire will be nothing but a record in the history books and a few legends and songs telling how for one brief shining moment there was a home of freedom called America. What is now the Northern tier of the United States will be provinces of Canada, and what is now the Southern Tier of the United States will be the nation of Hispania. But the Serbs will still be fighting in Serbia.

Serbs have won in keeping their land. As I stated Russia will not let NATO win they way they want too.
