As an ex-pat I can answer no that most Canucks most likely have local access - the Canadian population is probably more concentrated in urban areas than the US (long cold winters tend to make the services of a city that much more endearing). What is even more interesting is that ADSL is alive and kicking and has been for some time in Canada. Now if we could get the opinion of someone still in the country and knowledgeable about the situation with cable v. adsl I would be very interested.

Is that because a lot of Canadians have to dial long distance to get to a server of a dial up Internet provider?

Not True. Canadian popolation is very concentrated near cities.
In addition, i think their technology is up to date.

I cant tell if that is sarcasm lol.. if it is not, the answer is that most canadians have access to the internet through the same means as Americans. Most Rural communities have access through their major local telephone provider.

Most canadians live close to, or near larger centers, that often have independent ISPs as well. I grew up in a small town of 3500. They have net access through the telco TELUS. My parents live in a town of 45000, they have access through TELUS and a host of other providers (including AT&T). I live in a city of 1 mil, and have tens of choices. Of the three centers, i am the only on that can choose @HOME, and i do.

Jay
