your game theoretic calculations scare me. Don't you think the stakes are too high on this one? I think we should all back off, slowly, come talk of nuclear bombs...nothing's worth that!

Kosovo may be more to Russia than just a petty dictator pushing people out. I'm sure there is political debate in the DUMA about the U.S./NATO on the following points:

1. NATO nations are surrounding Russia - is this a long term threat, will they be forcefully telling us how to govern our people in the future?

2. Is the U.S. testing us in Kosovo; to see how strong we are?

3. We are no longer a super-power and the U.S. is just doing whatever they want in our backyard. Should we let them ? Will we be next ?

4. Do we want the U.S. to just keep us on economic life support in so far as we can be a nation, albeit a former shadow of what we were. Or do we want to be a proud super-power once again?
