Trouble logging in over at RB...

Ducatti/Why in the box?

I'm sure this is a question Wave engineers and management are asking. There certainly is a certainty and solidity to a chip which comes on the motherboard and is linked to an Embassy icon you can't remove from the desktop with dynamite. On the other hand, if the OEM includes an Embassy USB dongle and CD-ROM content bundle in the box and preloads any associated software on the hard drive, this may be nearly as good. However, problems arise with revenue sharing in this case. Should the OEM who first distributes such a dongle continue to share revenue from that dongle even when it is being used on another manufacturer's equipment? In fact, if the Embassy format becomes established, people may elect to obtain and use an Embassy USB dongle in lieu of the Embassy chip on a PC motherboard. Since mass deployment has been and remains the most important hurdle for Wave, it is encouraging to consider that problems may arise in choosing between independently sufficient modes of deployment. Until Embassy is ubiquitous, I think the most prudent course will be to involve gorillas as revenue-sharing partners who have a vested interest in promoting use of the product.

As I can't log on at RB, (I've contacted their technical assistance) I'll respond to "bigtim's" post here in SI: Maybe someone could invite “bigtim” over to read my the response as I found his post above to be of interest.

Sincerely,
Marty
