Where is your demarcation line in your theory of humor? You make it sound so simple, without taking any variables into account except the subject. Granted, some subjects sound pretty brutal, but you also have to look at the contexts, including the person saying it. That's the problem with broad-brush political correctness. No measure is given to anything else but the subject. E.G.- If Alan King makes a joke about his own ethnicity, would that be taboo with you, since it might be misconstrued? The fact is, you and I both know that Marty certainly didn't mean it. Your interpretation would suggest otherwise. As for your other examples of "humor", the big difference is the context, and the authors of those are far more likely to believe that these things are okay. If Marty's joke were made by a total stranger and I didn't know where he was coming from (not that I really know where Marty is coming from) then I would look at it in an entirely different light. One size does not fit all.
