I'll have to check with them to see if they still do this, but I heard that at one time my broker would hit you for commission on each-and-every partial they fill. It's not a lot per partial now that we've gone to electronic trading, but if you have an 8K share order in (which is what yours sounded like) you could rack up quite a number of partials. Choose your evil....
