I don't know if the rest of Win98 uses any advanced features of the chip. DirectX does, however. WinNT checks the CPU type at startup and utilizes certain features (for OS-level code) but I'm not sure about the new graphics features. I suspect that it leaves that to DirectX.

Those Wang Word Processors were pretty cool at the time. Wordstar came out to try to emulate them and did a pretty good job, if I recall correctly. Wordstar had the world in the palms of their hands and didn't move ahead fast enough.

I'm glad that we have competition, but a monopoly is also attractive to us as shareholders :-).
