Don't know. I think at the time they opened it for him, he was very popular and they might have obliged to his request.

At one point, he had a large following of shorts and value
investors. He had a number of good calls in 1996 and early 1997.
His shorts on the bomb detection (MAGSF) and Y2K (ZITL, VIAS, TRSI,
DDIM) stocks were very profitable. I agreed with his views on the
Y2K bubble, and made some nice profits with his recommendations. At
one point, he almost had me convinced to pick up some BROC. I am
always amenable to a good turnaround story. But the BROC folks
were made a big bet on "push" technology just as the approach was
falling into disrepute.
