I introduced ADSL and HDSL to GS&Co in the '91-'92 time frame. It was a Westell thing, at the time. The ADSL product for their equity folks to examine, and the HDSL product as a potential solution for some of their in-house riser/campus video application needs. The IT folks reviewed the concepts and declared that they were solutions looking for a problem. Everyone was using that catch all phrase at the time, as a carryover from the ISDN fiasco. A Solution looking for a Problem.

Also, Goldman sachs is coming out with a dsl ipo next month. Can't think of the company's name write now, but definitely keep an eye out.

Probably Northpoint. MSFT also took a stake in that one. Another one to look at is AWRE.
