Big Pharma Scoreboard 4/23/99
- A wild roller coaster, sector rotating week for Big Pharma .....which still managed a 1.3% gain for the week.

-Earnings dominated the headlines with pluses for JNJ (+9.3%) and BMY (+9.3%) and a minus for LLY (-9.8%)

-Despite a positive FDA Vioxx Advisory Panel and meeting the 1 Qt EPS Consensus, MRK dropped 2.4% for the week.

-After a major early week drop, PFE recovered and was unchanged for the week...except for the buy opportunities.

-We have a race for the YTD leader in Big Pharma! JNJ (+21.3%YTD) actually led .....until AMGN (+24.6%YTD) came back on Friday.

-Overall, Big Pharma (+1.8%YTD) is trailing the Dow (+16.4%) and the NASTie (+18.1%)

-LLY (-16.5% YTD) is singing the Prozac blues in da cellar.

PFE Split Information

Originally posted in January everything below was announced on 4/22/99 by PFE:

-On the April 22, 1999 Annual Meeting, PFE shareholders will officially approved an increase in authorized outstanding shares that will permit a 3-1 split.

-Following the Annual Meeting, the PFE Board is scheduled to meet and announce the 3-1 split and its effective date....Expected to be following the June 30, 1999 close.

Motley Fool /SI Challenge Highlights

-MERCKGAL (+15.6%) moved up to #1 with her play on AHP (Portfolio: AHP 99%, MRK 1%).

-McMenus(+9.6) moved up to second place (Portfolio: 40% PFE, 25% AMGN/MRK, 10%:JNJ)

-Ron Flanagan (+9.5% ) moved down to #3 (Portfolio: 33% PFE/MRK/AMGN, 1% Cash).

-GaryD711 (9.1%) jumped 14 places to 4th place (Portfolio: 40% ABT, 35% PFE, 25% JNJ)

-The five 100% PFErs (+1.6%) dropped to 31st place (Portfolio: 100% PFE)

-Supporting the principles behind the Peabody Model: PEABODY PURCHASE (+4.0%) is beating the PFE DRIP (+1.0%).
