INTERNET--(esecurities.W)--April 29, 1999 - MKTW Q1 Revenues up 168%; Acquires BigCharts, Inc.

SAN FRANCISCO, April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- MarketWatch.com, Inc. (Nasdaq: MKTW - news) today reported revenues of $3.1 million for the first quarter of 1999, a 168% increase over the comparable period of the previous year and a 24% increase over revenues of $2.5 million reported in the fourth quarter ended December 31, 1998. Net losses were $6.1 million, or $0.52 per share, for the first quarter. This compares to net losses of $1.8 million, or $0.20 per share, for the comparable period in the previous year and $4.2 million, or $0.47 per share for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 1998...In related news, the Company announced this morning the acquisition of BigCharts, Inc. <http://www.bigcharts.com> for approximately $160 million in stock and $6 million in cash.

The company also reported significant increases in traffic and users of its cbs.marketwatch.com web site during the quarter. MarketWatch.com's websites served 235 million page views in the first quarter, an increase of 133 million, or 130% from the comparable quarter in the prior year and an increase of 75 million, or 47% from the fourth quarter of 1998. The monthly average number of unique visitors to the company's web sites was 3.3 million in the first quarter of 1999, an increase of 313% and 43% from monthly averages of 0.8 million in March of 1998 (the first month for which data was available) and 2.3 million in the fourth quarter of 1998, respectively..."
