Agreed. The problem with having fans blowing outside of the case is that the air has to come from somewhere....likely the CD-ROM and the floppy drive. My old CDR had a ton of dust in there because of the air flow. Now I can feel the flow coming outside the drive. With the filters in the back, I'm all set.

Is dust accumulation that can't be rid by a Dust-Off attack whenever the case is opened really a problem?

I share Rich's concern about dust. I always considered the buildup on the boards as a problem. I never thought of the buildup inside the CD and floppy drives but that seems like equal or more significant as it is more difficult to clean.

Blowing the dust off seems like a health hazard. It makes me gag. I took a machine outside and blew it into the wind with an air can and still had trouble avoiding the dust as it rose up in a whirl wind.

I too like the cool in and hot out concept. My approach is to overpower the exhaust fan on the power supply with intake fans. I have seven intake and one (power supply) exhaust fans..and three or so internal..(harddrive and cpu).

I tried some basic filter material in a dusty environment at work. Three weeks later the 'rag' showed some signs of dust accumulation.

For my home machine I tried something different. The home environment is less dusty than the work environment. I used 3M filtrete HEPA filter cloth. There is a very noticeable difference. The 3M stuff showed dust accumulation almost immediately.

The disadvantage of the better filter material is that it has to be changed more frequently...although that is because it works better.
