Steve:

I believe that you should invest in both AOL and ATHM; however at the present time and at least for the next few years, AOL will outperform ATHM as it has been doing.

Steve,
I own both stocks and subscribe to both services. Each service has its advantages and both stocks have done phenomenally well. At this point in time with both companies trying to capture a market with a variety of approaches and technologies what you're betting on is the management of both companies. AOL's management is reputed to be top notch and never complacent. I have questioned the legislation strategy employed by Case to secure access to cable. I don't like getting the government involved and even if successful it will be years before there's resolution and by then we'll know the winners and the losers in this race.
On the ATHM side, installation is way too labor intensive and the support service is second class. What would you expect from a monopoly? The speed, however, is out of this world. Don't think that Mr. Case and company are not obsessed with securing high speed access not just over 25% of this country (current coverage with Baby Bell deal) but over the entire world and they have a head start.
I don't know if you've seen the PGA Tour commercials ("These guys are good.") but that pretty well describes AOL management. I know less about ATHM's management but was impressed with their CEO whom I've seen on CNBC a couple of times.
I guess you can tell that I'm pleased to own both stocks and will watch carefully to see how all this plays out.
Mike
