And the company line rolls on. I am listening, that is why I have questions. For example, let's take the 12 billion call minutes at face value. How many of those minutes are actually billable? Both the customer and the satellite have to be in view of a ground station. Iridium claims 1.2 billion call minutes per year with a completely interconnected system, ie., the satellite always has access to a ground station. G* is claiming 12 billion call minutes per year in a transponded system. I might even believe that all the satellites can support that, but how do the demographics and the ground station visibility fit in to the picture? It just doesn't make sense to me that they can ever bill that many minutes a year. If somebody can point out what I am missing here, I would be in your debt.

Iridium had a business plan that showed basically the same thing and they were going to break-even by the end of 1999. Things didn't work out that way for them. It's a lot easier to make a plan than it is to execute.

Valueman: Sorry to have offended you. But asking us to stop posting because you don't like what CommSatMan and I might say is a bit like taking control of the press in former Iron Curtain countries. If you don't like what is written, click on "Next" and skip it.

Here's a chance for you to show your knowledge: If Globalstar is "breakeven" at 14 cents per minute, please provide the calculation that arrives at this figure. Does it presume the system is at full capacity and all minutes are being used? Do all the gateways have to be in operation? Does geographical distribution of heaviest use affect profitability? How does the additional financing requirement ($600 million) alter either (1) the breakeven per minute or (2) the timeline for breakeven after initiation of operations. Finally, how many phones have been ordered by actual paying customers so far?

Valueman, what percentage of the business plan needs to be met to build the second generation system? Is that known?
